| The unveiling of
a new abstract sculpture took place November 21, 2008 at 5:00 to a crowd
of 150. They chanted a count-down worthy of a spacecraft
launch as Ann Looney of the Tennessee Arts Commission, Ray Butkus of
the Art Guild, and the sculptor, Jean Liberty, pulled down the black
plastic shroud that had covered the sculpture.
At the reception, Liberty described the
sculpture's symbolism, "The sculpture has five blades, two blades
point out to the road, beckoning to all that pass, saying 'look over
here'. The other blades point to the entrance of the Art
Center saying 'come on in." Liberty has not named the
sculpture because he believes that viewers should use their own
imaginations to decide what the piece represents.
The sculpture was commissioned by the Art
Guild and funded by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission and a
matching contribution by Hughes Real Estate Services.
The Plateau Creative Arts Center is
located at 451 Lakeview Drive near the Multipurpose Building.
