Karen's first artistic experience was drawing women's hats on a little notepad while sitting in church "keeping quiet."  Her next art experience was finger painting with her four children (and now eight grandchildren).  Having no formal training but always looking at art and saying, "I bet I could do that," Karen is excited about the abundance of art opportunities available through the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade.  That was one of the main reasons she and her husband, Dennis, moved to Fairfield Glade in 2003 as soon as she retired from being an Executive Secretary.

In preparation for joining the Guild, Karen took two watercolor workshops and began work in earnest.  She has taken several classes offered through the Art Guild and some private instruction.  Being so new to the art world, Karen admits to not having a favorite medium or subject - yet - but is enjoying trying them all.  The most recent area of interest is in

using colored and graphite pencils.  An avid observer of nature's glory, she receives great joy in the fluidity of watercolor and the reality of pencils, both of which can only reflect God's original creations.  Her works hang in family and friends' homes in Virginia, West Virginia, Vermont and Italy.
