KAY WODE, Artist
An instructor, Shirley Isberg, instilled in me the love of taking a piece of clay, molding it into a piece of art, bringing a part of me into the piece. I still have the two pinch pots I made my first day in class.
After moving to Fairfield Glade in the spring of 1996, I started taking art lessons from members of the art guild. Prior to that time, I had been working in pottery for a number of years. I work in stoneware that fires to a warm brown - sometimes finishing with earthy glaze or oxide washes. I favor handbuilding, sometimes throwing a piece and altering the shapes.
My love of gardening and flowers show in the numerous floral subjects for my watercolor paintings and also in creating organic pieces of pottery. I am influenced by the beauty surrounding us in this part of Tennessee. Some of my pieces of pottery have an oriental feeling to them.
