Rosalyn Hufford Palace Theater Artist of the Month
By Trish Budzik
The featured artist at the Historic Palace Theater for the month of February is Rosalyn Hufford. Rosalyn, while still in elementary school, was encouraged to pursue her gift in art by a teacher who recognized her artistic talent. She was born and raised on the Wyoming ranch which the family homesteaded. These early memories still inspire her paintings of buildings, fields, and other aspects of ranching life.
Oil painting was her original medium of choice. Additionally, Rosalyn studied charcoal drawing and pottery at Penn State University. Taking up watercolor painting in her spare time, while raising a family and working full time, she fell in love with the beauty and freshness of transparent watercolor and all its challenges. Rosalyn paints primarily from her own photographs in floral, portrait and landscape subjects.
After retirement in 2003, Rosalyn has been able to devote more time to painting and exhibiting her work. She and her husband, John, moved to Tennessee five years ago from Oklahoma to be closer to their grandchildren.
Rosalyn has won multiple awards from a variety of art exhibits including the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade, where she was exhibiting as Artist of the Month in 2013. She has previously exhibited at the Palace Theater and the Art Circle Library in Crossville.
